It is time for my 6 month dental check up so I asked my APN for ideas so far as a dentist would might have more experience in caring for a hepatitis patient on treatment, especially since I need to get a dentist locally. Her response was that I should not see a dentist while on treatment because of the combination of my anti-rejection meds and the treatment meds. OK...I am comfortable with that idea since I'm almost halfway through with the 56 weeks she intends me to do of treatment.

So, here is the question. My jaws ache, my teeth seem to ache and are sensitive to hot, cold and acidity. I know that I should not have any major dental problems since last March when I had my teeth cleaned and x-rayed. Is this deep ache related to side effects of the meds? If not, anyone's opinion on this is welcome. I even considered maybe I am stress gritting my teeth at night but none of the cats have complained so who knows. Suggestions please?

Robin,

You can now buy inexpensive teeth guards for sleeping at night.  You toss a mouthpiece in hot water then fit it to your mouth.  You can get them at any drug store.

Try it.  If it solves the problem there you go.

Somehow, and perhaps this is completely off the walll, I doubt your cats are the best indicators of night teeth grinding.  Wink

I don't recall having any tooth pain on treatment but I did loose most of me teeth because of it.

Robin,

I had both teeth and bone joint discomfort during tx. My teeth are worse for wear due to the ordeal. I wish I had gotten a guard like Doug suggests.

In my own world, I'm finding that bone joint/tendon/ligament injuries occur much more readily these days. I'm also planning on major dental work. . . probably after the first of the year.

Yes, I attribute all of the above to tx.

thanks for the responses. I feel like I have chewed on a D cell battery and almost have a metallic taste in my mouth. I can deal with whatever, it's just annoying. Keep your spirits high...robin

Biotene mouth wash (and tooth paste and gum) is specially formulated for the 'dry mouth' stuff that is associated with chemo.

I wonder if that would be worth a try?

Robin,

I am with Max on this one. The biotene really worked well for my mouth on treatment. I hated that nasty metallic taste in my mouth. yuck.
