The last few months have been quite a roller coaster, but on November 20th Dan got his new liver!  Just two years since he was placed on the list.  He went into surgery quite healthy considering he had been hospitalized 3 times since July.  His MELD was 33.  He is at Day 5.  His color is great.  He is ready to start taking baby steps tomorrow. We are so thankful and have a prayer chain that focuses on the donor family daily at 1 pm. Smiley   Roll Eyes  Dan's surgery used 15 units of blood and 27 units of frozen plasma.  That plus his new liver involved 43 donations!  I am passing that information on to everyone I know...Every little bit counts!

Good luck with your new life!

There is another person here on the board that received a new liver 2 years ago now.....on Thanksgiving day!

So...you really do have alot to be thankful for.

situation, or you may be in a similar situation, and if your in a
situation like that there's only one thing you can do and that's walk into
the shrink wherever you are ,just walk in say "Shrink, You can get

Hi - My husband was diag with a cancerous liver lesion.  He has cirrohsis from hep c.  They did an ablation to the lesion. Michael was listed on January 20th for a liver. We received a call on the 24th stating they had liver, but Mike would be secondary backup.  We went to UNC Chapel Hill, Michael was prepared for surgery if the primary was not able to receive the liver.  The primary was able to receive the liver.  We are back waiting again. I was wondering if any of you have been called in as secondary before and if so what was the wait time before the primary call came?  Michael is a 22 Meld score.
