Thanks got to do it.
My son in law has TIVO, the grand kid still says after watching a tv show, "Let's watch it again".  Poor me, married to the world's oldest techno-peasant, I used to sneak new stuff into the house when he was at work and destroy the boxes.  He would say, "is that a new computer?", I would say "no dear, just the box is new (referring to the cpu of course)".  now he is retired and a real crankenstein.  Can't slip a thing by him.  Although he does like a few things, my MP3 player for exercise that is no skip, new stereo with surround sound, etc. Has even taken to using the puter -- called me at work last week and wanted to know how to get to a web page.  He had previously been using google to find things of interest to him, antiques and vintage firearm information.  And he loves his cell phone, but I have to charge it for him.
As far as TV -- we have cable, use cable for internet access as well.  Not sure how direct tv would work out for me, I would have to have somone (not the crankenstein) install it.  He can't even keep up in the home repair department.  Willy -- if you like to get up on roofs, my needs a little fixing around the skylight.
Speaking of pink floyd -- I have a vhs movie -- the wall --a very strange movie indeed.  Looking for it on dvd. Anyone seen it?

Straight _up......one of my all time favorite scenes was from the Blues Brothers...while they were playing behind chicken wire.  In that case, if memory serves me right it was "Stand By Your Man" that saved the day.

Any other bartenders out there?

Al.......I saw that movie....... back our country's "don't trust anyone over 30" , formative, pre-revolution period of the late 60's ......early seventies.  According to the "Golden Retriever" the film was released in 68.  Aside from the main actor Christopher Jones, the film also featured Hal Holbrook (am I remembering longish hair, bell bottoms and love beads?), Richard Pryor, and of course.......Dikk Clark.  I'd rate the movie about 80% for dancability, but only 60% for watchability.

Made back in the Magical Mystery Tour period of our county's peace and love movement, the feeling gave way to a more cynical view expressed in the movie "Joe", released in 1970 which featured Peter Boyle and debuted a young actress, Susan Sarandon.

Then came disco..........

I suppose that you never owned a polyester print shirt?
Never once wore one.....on a dare?  Or walked on the un-wild side?   Shocked

I hung more with the Gram Parsons inspired in the mid-late 70's.

Speaking of the Raiders....... I was just marveling at two songs from the Nat Lampoons Family Vacation film........ Mark Lindsey's "Holiday Road" (which opens the film) and "Dancin across the USA" (which closes the film).  Both great songs.

The D word....... lol.

I haven't been following this thread but thought I'd leave a quick post.

I saw both Stones concerts in Fenway Park and highly recommend the tour.  It's the best since Steel Wheels.

I currently play both a Strat Am. Standard and a Les Paul Standard thru a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4 X 10.  The first night after I bought the Deville the police came to my house to tell me turn it down.  It cranks.

Yup....you got me pegged.

I'm tryijng to repair my strat tonight.  The wire on the inside of the speakercord jack broke loose from it's solder connection.  Do you think I can just re-solder it with regular solder and not lose any sound?

Mike:  The safest is to use the same solder as what was used prior.  A techno dude at a music store may know, or e-mail the technos at whatever web site makes the product.

As an ex-welder and shop owner...... I doubt you need anything special as long as you have excellent contact metal to metal.  You can acheive this thru sanding scaping twisting wires together etc.  What you DON"T want is a large solder space conveying the electicity.

Also be aware that a higher temp solder used to re-attach your connection could overheat other joints and cause a bigger problem.  You might consider some heat sheilds or heat sinks to keep your heat segregated.  When done clean off any flux paste as it is acidic and may damage other components.

Yours in high fidelity.....
Willy

PS.......I'm too lazy to look first but will after I post this.  Did you post on that "SVR One Year" thread......?

I always use (and so did/does Marshall) a low tempature silver soldier (if you get a generic silver it will, almost always, be low temp)... it will provide a durable, reliable connection and will be transparent to amp's tone...

Enjoy!

Hi Tracy Lee,

Glad you enjoyed my place. Y'all up north must be starved for humor, eh? I haven't worked on it for several years. Actually kinda surprised it's not a dead link~

You do standup? Wow.  It takes a little guts, hubris & a big ego to get up on stage and do 4 sets with a band. But to just stand naked with a mic and do material? More guts than I'd have~

My Yamaha FG-300 has seen better days. But we've been together on several continents over the past 34 years so it'd be, like, cheatin' on her if I bought a "replacement."

Al

PS: A belated welcome to the board~

LOL thanks for the welcome Al. And don't be so modest...you are funny as hell!!( for I have heard that hell is hilarious)

Oddly enough...I started doing stand up to face my fear of public speaking and my stage fright. I wanted to be able to do gallery showings of my art work without puking on my  potential clients. I figured that taking a comedy class would be alot more fun than taking a course like "toastmasters". I thought I would do it once...face my fears and be done. Little did I know that my first time on stage would be at Yuk Yuks and that I would get "hooked". I love it, I have great fun and I don't care if I never make a cent...it is just fun!!

I have trouble getting through a song alone on the guitar...never mind going on stage. I am very amature.

I look forward to talking with you.

Very Cool...I wish I had pursued it more when I was younger. Oh well..I am still doing what I love with the art and comedy...so if I didn't get the "superstar" thing in there too..well then I am ok with that!

I like all music...well I can't say I listen to too much Heavy metal at this age..and you can't spell "crap" without "rap"...but other than that...I like everything!! Blues, country, Jazz, alternative, some pop, Classical, some Opera,....just a little of it all !! ( and of course rock classics and 70's stuff...absolutely!)
