I live in South China (yes, near the SARS epicenter) I am beginning a combination of Western and Eastern medicine for HCV. The Chinese doctor I am currently working with has prescribed: Jianganling Jiaonang (only web sites are in Chinese), Zangyinchenpian (If I didn't have a few bottles of this I wouldn't know it existed), Coenzyme Q10 and Ribavirin. I am scheduled to begin Interferon this week. I am afraid of the interferon. I will keep those interested as to the results of my experience posted. I have Genotype 1.
Back in the USA my gastroenterologist had suggested I just wait until better medicine was developed for this genotype. I waited 6 years! Now that I live in China I decided to move ahead.
Oddly I posted this at a forum I have belonged to since 1996 and the post was deleted. I can only guess the strange names of the herb formulas are not listed in English so they thought it was bull.
Anyway. Away we go on this serious alternative medicine.

My best

Hey Don, welcome in, brother. The Chinese have been involved with medicines and healing for what, at least a couple of zillion years. There's a lot that they are really good at in healing, and just because it isn't the norm here in the states doesn't automatically take away it's validity. This country is driven by big pharmaceutical manufacturers and other industries, and they want to isolate the market to best suit their financial gains. But I know an herbologist who studied in Chinese medicines and she has a lot of really interesting info that I wouldn't have known about without her.

I've heard of Coenzym Q10 (aka Co Q-10), and it is listed as another aid in liver functioning on the label of my Milk Thistle bottle, along with Lecithin, Garlic, and Vitamin B-Complex. The Jianganling Jiaonang and Zangyinchenpian I am not aware of and will write my herbologist to ask her about them, but it sounds like the doctor you're seeing is used to prescribing these things for Hep C, so it probably is a good thing to follow his instruction. Ask him about the new natural interferon, which is supposed to have better results than the synthetic interferon made by Scherring Plough. See if he has access to the natural interferon, as it might give you a much better fight against the virus, with possibly less side effects.

Maybe the web board you posted on (and it was deleted) was a glitch, and you should try to post it again. Just a suggestion. This time maybe say that you tried to post it once and it was rejected, and you have proof that the medicines prescribed exist. Or just keep coming here. We had one bad loss a while back where we lost over 1000 posts from members and couldn't salvage them. There was a ton of heartfelt posting that was just gone, and it was all truly valuable info that could have been helpful for a long time for many more newcomers here. I know what you must feel not being able to post in your usual place.

Keep coming back and let us know how things are going. Take a look at some of the other posts in other sections here, like in the "News, Friends, Prayers, and more..." message board. There's some copied reports in there about new med's that are having exciting results, like making the virus undetectable in just days, with just ingesting some pills!

Take care, and God bless.

I expect you will do very well - try to insit that the interferon be pegylated. If you run into difficulties with low blood celle counts, side effects try a formulation called Adjunct www.yuancentre.com
