Prayers & God's Blessings

« on: August 02, 2005, 03:25:31 AM »

Okay!  Now my insurance has authorized my liver biopsy, it's been scheduled and I'm beginning to sweat bullits of anticipation.  I already checked and they won't put me to sleep or give me anything to kind of put me out there.  I can't believe that as advanced as the medical society is they still expect the patient to endure the brunt of such procedures!  I guess I'll just put a pillow over my face!  Roll Eyes

Eeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!!

Hi Dragon, I can understand how you feel, but you need to find out why they won't give you anything. I was knocked out for my biopsy. I woke up when it was over.

Hey Dragon,
Let me tell ya, the worry about it is MUCH worst than the actual procedure, before I got mine I was really nervous, a very close friend who had gotten one a few years earlier reassured me it was really nothing, and you know what? It wasnt, they need you awake because they will need you to hold your breath on command. Grin They will give you a local to numb the area and you wont feel much of anything but the slightest pinch, and if you feel nervous Im sure they will give you something to relax you, I asked about that and they said if I felt I needed something, no problem, but I was okay and didnt, so if you feel you need it, make sure you tell them so, you'll be fine. Let us know how it go's.
Take care, Helen

Hi Dragon,
I had one two or three weeks ago and must say I didn't sleep much the night before but all the worry was for nothing.  The local was the only thing I felt and it was only a slight stinging sensation. My right arm did hurt a little afterwards but they gave me something for that while I laid on my right side for the next hour or so.  Anyway,  my prayers are with you and I hope the results are good news.

I had a terrible exprience, first my radiologist got in a arguement with a nurse and yelled at her , which she left crying, and of course , feeling buzzed , my big mouth said , whos gonna  hold my other boob, in a joking way,and he replied are you bragging,i said no im embarresed, they hang, so that p ssed him off more, then he proceed and the first time he went in was ok but i could feel it more and more , so the nurse put in another iv and then i felt relief, then i couldnt breathe as easy ,and i told him , then i felt some warm liquid running down my back side, he had hit a artery, and then i said here , this is my time to go , but he clamped it off and i was in mild pain afterward, but next time im demanding to be on cons, sedation or out.I look at it , like , what a bad day and i got to say we need better docters I believe the reason why some people dont get put out, either their history prevents them or insurance does not pay for extras like comfort, in most cases you can assume payment your self.   good luck , remember this is just one bad experiance.

As others have said, thinking about the procedure was much worse for me than the actual procedure.  It was quick and painless. However, the hospital I went to gave me lots of drugs (local) and made me very comfortable.  I could have cared less what they did to me.  I was awake during the procedure and had no trouble at all afterwards.

I think you should find out why they don't give locals.  The surgeon must be some kind of barbarian!!  I would never do another biopsy unless I had a local and was kept comfortable, like the first time.

My prayers are with you.

Are you sure this is a tunnel???

Dragon,

I had one 4 years ago and also was informed that I would have to be, not only awake, but alert, so I could hold my breath on the doctor's command while he took the tissue sample.  I too did not sleep the night before.  I would refuse the procedure without a local.

However, it really is very quick.  I'll be scheduling another one in a few weeks.  Good luck dear, and try to chill, my prayers are with you.

http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hepatitis/factsheets_pdf/Biopsy.pdf

I've visited this a few times.  It is not long but has some interesting information.  The odds of dying from a biopsy: 3 deaths per 10,000 biopsies.  Complications: 3 per 1000.  Mild to moderate pain; 30%.

Other information I found interesting....... That 30% of those infected with HCV have normal ALT scores.  Those that have these scores tend to have minimal fibrosis.  However, of these that have "normal" ALT scores it is estimated that 3-5% will have cirrhosis.  (I'm doing this from memory as my computer has some problems with PDF files.)

Good luck with your procedure...... you might ask again or demand at least a sedative.  I am sure that if there is  pain problem following...... that they will provide something if asked.

Best,
Willy

I've had four or five starting in 1969. All were done while I was awake. You'll be fine.

Of course you'll get a local to numb the area, as for the other stuff, you have every right to expect to be given something to relax you if needed, make sure you let them know that. Let us know how it go's.
Good luck, ( Youll be fine )  Helen  Smiley

Hey Everyone!

"Thank You So Much" for your Emails of support.  They have meant a lot to me.  Wink

Willy50...I don't do percentages because unless it's the lottery I have found through my life I tend to hit-on the lesser amount...eg...there are only 3% women in the US that are o negative blood type and RH factor...yep!  That would include me.  :-/

I will get a local.  I guess I better be happy about that.  The past couple days the depressive side of my bi-polar has kicked in so I kind of have an "I don't care anymore" attitude right now but I will be taking my Faith into that room with me on Wednesday.

I can be such a baby...guess it's time to grow up.  Huh

I also was a reck. I heard some crazy stories and was so scard. I got a local and I took a xanax. Your doc better give you a local or I would have a talk with him. It hurt for a second. You do have to hold your breath. Getting you ready for the test take much longer than the actual biopsy. You will be fine. Think posative. After your results are in you can go on from there as to what you want to do about the dragon Hep C. Let us know. When are you having this done? I will think of you at that time and then you won"t be alone. Jacque

Hey Dragon,
It has nothing to do with growing up, dont think I ever met 1 person who wasnt scared whern they heard those words "Get a biopsy" if you werent a little nervous
wouldnt be normal.  Grin It'll all be over soon and Im sure you'll be saying it wasnt so bad. To tell you the truth with the local I barely felt a pinch for a second, I can say there was really wasnt any pain whatsoever for me.

Like Jacque says, let us know when your scheduled we'll be there in our thoughts and prayers and be waiting here for you to see how it went. Smiley

Take care, Helen
