Hi Linda, Angel!!! Grin Wink

Check out this website that's a non-profit organization involved with organ/tissue donation. Their name is "Lifesharers"  http://www.lifesharers.org

I got it from HCV Support so, thanks to Viper and Dj Turtle for the link. Grin Wink Cool http://hcvsupport.org/forum/index.php

Here's their Frequently Asked Questions link:
http://www.lifesharers.org/faq.asp

Then scroll down to: the 5th "Q" down from the top of the page:
"Is anyone barred form joniing Lifesharers due to any pre-existing medical condition?"
"A": "NO."
"Q": "Why are people who do'nt have organs that are suitable for transplantation allowed to join Lifesharers?"
"A": "No one knows whose organs will be transplantable in the future."
"Surgeons are now routinely transplanting lots of organs they would've rejected years ago. As the organs shortage continues to grow, many organs that would be rejected today will likely be accepted in the future."

Now I personally do not agree with these folks on principal but I do'nt want to get started on this debate again so, I'lll just say that it is important to look at all of the potential benefits, and potential pitfalls with respect to their approach towards organ donation. Look at both "sides of the coin" and by all means, play the "devil's advocate" when you analyze the details, statistics, specifics, and philosophy in order to make an informed decision as to whether or not this organization may become beneficial for you in the near future, or not! Shocked Huh Wink

Ultimately it comes down to one's own personal choice, and I'm not going to try to convince anyone otherwise!!! I have no right to do so, that is why I'm simply attempting to suggest that everyone read the "FAQ'S", all of the other posted information and especially the fine print!!! Huh Wink Grin

Respectfully,
Hanklive39 Lives for Today and Tomorrow!!! Smiley Grin Huh Grin Shocked Wink Cool

Calif. hospital settles transplant suit after 33 die

Center turned away organs while people waiting perished

IRVINE, Calif. - The UCI Medical Center agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle 35 lawsuits brought by former liver transplant candidates at the hospital or their relatives, the lawyer for most of the plaintiffs said Wednesday.

The plaintiffs sued the University of California, Irvine, hospital after a 2005 federal report found that 33 transplant candidates died between 2004 and 2005 even as the hospital turned away organs that might have saved some of them.

The report and ensuing scandal prompted UCI to close its liver transplant program in 2005 and led to the resignations of top hospital officials. The report also led to a federal investigation and calls for a state inquiry.

(maybe I'm a tad out of sorts about this but IF the lawyers take 1/3rd that's 7.5 Mill X .66666% equals basically 5 million dollars5 million divided by 35 dead folks who waited for something that never came.  Isn't that about $142  thousand
if evenly disrributed?  I think it should be $7.5 million per causualty.
