Mistletoe treatment (Abnoba or Helixor)

I've been diagnosed with HCV type 1 in September 2002. Currently I am participating in a study at an Anthroposophical clinic in Berlin/Germany. The treatment consists of subcutaneous injections of mistletoe (apple tree), in combination with Solanum (green tomatoe) and Hepatodoron (wild strawberry and ivy extract). Before I started the treatment in February 2003, my virus count was 558,000. Three months later virus load was reduced by ca. 70% to 149,000. Naturally, I am very pleased with the result, especially since there are no side effects to the treatment -- on the contrary, I do feel much more energetic and positive since I started it. However, it would be helpful to discuss this treatment with others who've experienced it. All responses are very welcome. Thank you.

Petra,
That sounds great! I'm a firm believer that there are effective alternative treatments out there. We just need to find them. I'd be interested in knowing what your next viral load count is. If it continues to drop substantially then it's probably working. I've seen my own viral load fluxuate between 1.9 million and 700,00 without any treatment. A single drop is always welcome, but a sustained drop over several months is the real test.
I'm currently doing the combo treatment and the side effects are rough.
Good luck,
Mike

Hello Mike,
thank you for your response. Seems there are no studies on mistletoe treatment elsewhere in the world. After speaking to a couple of other patients, I found that each of us is being treated differently as far as dosage and duration are concerned. I started by the end of January, and virus loads are being tested every 3 months. By the end of July I will get my second result, and I will keep you updated.
So far, out of 81 participants who have been treated for 12 months, 7 have been virus free for more than 6 months after the end of the treatment (not sure which types - I am 1a.)
I do wish you a lot of strength and the best of luck with your combo treatment.

Hello Petra,
Were would you go about obtaining this combination you are injecting. Are any of the Dr.'s at your clinic associated with any of our's in the U.S.? I would really like to get more information on you combination.
You can e mail it to me if you'd like.
Much appreicated

Hi surfergirl,
unfortunately, I can't answer that question. The clinic in Berlin is online at:
www.havelhoehe.de
(German version only).
There's also a list of publications at:
http://www.havelhoehe.de/fih/html/publikationen.html
The name of the doctor is Dr. Burkhard Matthes. However, I did find one publication in English language: Matthes, H., Matthes, B., Biesenthal, S. (2000). "Survey of unconventionally hepatitis C therapy with an aqueous mistletoe extract and lycopersicon esculentum." Gastroenterology 118(5): 2000. No idea though, where to obtain a copy. I'll try to find out next week when I get my blood tests. Or, you might want to try and send an email to:
forschung@fih-berlin.de
. I will keep you updated. Best wishes -- Petra
