All information about treatment says one should not get pregnant during and 6 months after the pregnancy because of the possibility of birth defects.

My concern is that is 6 months an okay time when the medicine is out of your system? Should one wait for more?

Are there any studies for kids of people becoming pregnant like a year or so after tx. Are they free from any issues or have any issues?

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks

Everything I read states to avoid pregnancy for at least 6 months after stopping ribavrin.  This is calculated using the drug's half life.  I was told by my doctor that it takes 6 months for ribavirin to be excreted totally from the body. I would think that this could vary slightly depending on the individual's general health, kidney and liver function.  The 6 month rule is based on 15 half lives of the drug.  http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic2/ribav_wcp.htm

If it were me, I would opt to wait a bit longer.  -- due to the "at least" 6 months.
There is a ribavirin pregnancy registry.  Found lots of references to it, never found any analysis of the data.
