Hi everyone,
I have never been on anti depressants before and am sort of nervous about starting them.  But, I did start them today......

I have felt like crap since my last injection.  Today, I feel dizzy.  I am wondering if that could be from taking the anti depressant for the first time?

I also decided that I was going to try the Melatonin to help me sleep instead of the Ambien.  I had a bad night and overslept 3 hours this morning!  I am at work at 7:30 everyday and today I didn't get to work till 10:30am!!!!

I am feeling so screwed up!  I can't tell what is giving me what side affect!!!!  Any info on sides of anti's and sides of Melatonin?Huh

Thanks,
Penney Tongue

Penney, the first ad I tried did not agree with me, it was Exeffor, or something like that. I felt nauseated the whole time and headaches. I tried Zoloft and its been fine. You need to try a couple probably before you find the one that is good for you.  Smiley
A couple of people told me to give it a chance the first time, but after 2 days I said no way. It was bad enough doing the meds without adding to the problem.

Hi Penney,
Sounds like you're having a go of it. I began anti-depressants 2 months ago for the first time too. They made me sleep a lot for the first 2 days. I even sleep a whole lot better now after 2 months of them, way better  than I have in quite a while. A friend said that the anti-d removes mania, and "allows" me to sleep, almost at will.
I would not mix an anti-depressant with a sleeping pill until I could see how the Anti-depressant was going to work for me, unless I didn't have to do anything the next day, as sleeping pills have a tendency to wipe me out.

Thanks guys.....

I have been on these anti's for 2 days now and boy do I feel funky....nauseaus and dizzy all day.  I talked to the nurse.  She said it should go away in about a week....but if I can't handle these sides, then I can just stop taking them and make another appt. to try something else.  GUINEA PIG.  Then someone told me to take it at night instead of morning and that may help...

The melatonin did not help me sleep....infact, I toss and turn every half hour Sad

I am going to take the Ambien tonight instead.  Thanks for the input on that  George, I spoke to the nurse, she said it would be OK for me to take both...These sleeping aids do not knock me out.  But Excedrin PM did!!!

I am really trying to stay positive..........
This plain sucks.......

Penny, What are you on? The Anti-D? I am on lexapro and Dr said it would make me sick feeling for a few weeks maybe. It did not. I feel less tense on it. But it does not help me sleep. The excedrin PM is doing the trick! I acually fell asleep this afternoon and slept for several hours with nothing to help me sleep!

Having a great time.

WBC's are still low! Dr said 1/2 dose AGAIN Saturday! Really NOT happy bout that. Of well what do ya do? Was sagain told they would not prescribe the neupogen or procrit. Said they are a private office and do not choose to use it. She said If I am set on taking it to look around so I will when I get back to town.

Hi all! missed the board! Hope everyone is well! I will catch up in a fews days.

Jackie

Hi Penney,

The same thing happened to mom too....she got all dizzy and just didnt like the way they made her feel after a couple of days. Someone had suggested that maybe she should only take half a pill, and it still didnt work. She threw them out and tried something else.
I cant remember what she is taking now....I think it starts with a 'C'?? But she knew right off the bat that it was right for her as she never felt crappy from it.
I would go in for that appointment and have them try something else...

Best Wishes....

Hey Jackie, glad to hear your vacation is doing you good.
Regarding the answer your doctor gave  you, that would piss me off big time. 'They're a private office,' what does that have to do with the price of tea in China ?
If I were you I would find someone else when you get back. I can't stand to hear how narrow minded some people could be, but of course it's not their friend or family member going through it.
Unbelievable..............

Hi everyone!!

Marina, glad to see your a 'member' again  Grin

I have decided to take the Effexor at nights and see how that works.  I read up on all the possible side affects and I seem to have them all.....whatelse is new?!
I am going to try to stick with it for the week and see how I feel.......right now I am dizzy and sweaty and can't stop yawning!  Boy oh boy.............this is gonna be fun!

I stopped the melatonin and took a 5mg Ambien last night.....selpt much better.....

One thing my doctor and nurse keep telling me is that I should take a multi-vitamin everyday (which I already do).  But, I wanted to let you guys know incase anyone isn't taking vitamins that it may be a good thing to start.

 Hey Penney,

I've been a member all along ! I just have split personality  Grin

By the way, I take vitamins every single day, and I don't believe I would be able to get through these meds if I didn't. I totally agree on the vitamin thing, but there are some doctors who advise their patients on not taking anything. Jackie's is one of them. I believe she told me that her doc didn't want her taking anything. I don't see how this could affect the meds, they're not another medicine, only supplements.

Split personality, HA, that is how I feel with this crap.

The only thing my doctor and nurse told me to stop taking was the Milk Thistle while I am on treatment.  They said there wasn't enough information out there as to whether or not it can 'affect' the treatment.....

Other than that, I know it is very important to take the vitamin supplements.....so do they.

Take Care,

I think the reason for that is that the milk thistle helps keep the enzyme levels down. I guess if they are down they want to be sure that it's the treatment doing it, and that the milk thistle is not the catalyst.
But I know of one guy in calif. who has also  been  told not to take anything, no milk thistle, vitamins, etc.
I bought sulfur today (liquid form) We'll shall see. I wasn't particularly fond of the way it tasted, but my husband said there was nothing wrong with it. I didn't mix it with anything, I took it like a MAN !!!  Wink straight up.

Hi all.
Penny, I tried elavil for a week. Yuck!
I'll not try that again.
Luckily, I work at the House of Pain, and they are just so tickled to let me work to exhaustion.
I usually only sleep an hour or two a night, but about every 4th, I'll sleep 13, 14 hours.
Hope you're able to find something that works for you, and when you do, please let us know.

Hi,

Arky, you're funny Smiley  Don't let them work you to death!

I have decided to stick with taking the Effexor.  I switched to taking it at nights....hopefully after the first week, I will not feel anymore side affects.  I am taking the Ambien again and so far, it is not really working.  It is so hard to sleep Sad  I'm going ot give it another week and then maybe start taking 10mg.

Thanks,

I tell ya what, I have been doing the excedrin PM at night and it works for me. I can tell when I do not take it. I try not to do everynight but then I toss and turn for hours! Then I have to get up and take some and in 1/2 hour I'm out for the night.
