DCA is dichloroacetate. Tom has posted on it but at this quick moment I could'nt tell you exactly which post it is. You can insert the name in our search engine at the upper left corner and it will pull up posts including that specific word. I'm sure you would easily find Tom's post on it.
I have some comments of my own in regards to Sylvia's report on Quercetin but I'm off the board to get ready for a meeting and my "brain drain" doesn't allow me the time to think and type fast enough...lol.
Later.....

Whoops! The info on DCA is in a report that Willy posted. It is in "New & Emerging Therapies."
Bye-Bye.....

Onions 'cut heart disease risk'
Onions are a good source of quercetin
Eating a meal rich in compounds called flavonoids reduces some early signs of heart disease, research shows.
An Institute of Food Research team focused on one of the compounds, quercetin, which is found in tea, onions, apples and red wine.
The Atherosclerosis study examined the effect of the compounds produced after quercetin is broken down by the body.
They were shown to help prevent the chronic inflammation which can lead to thickening of the arteries.
The effect is more subtle than laboratory experiments using the parent compound
Dr Paul Kroon
Institute of Food Research
Previous research has shown quercetin is metabolised very quickly by the intestine and liver and is not actually found in human blood.
So instead the researchers concentrated on the compounds that enter the bloodstream after quercetin is ingested, absorbed and metabolised.
The compounds were used - in concentrations similar to those that would be produced following digestion - to treat cells taken from the lining of the blood vessels.
Lower dose, bigger impact
Lead researcher Dr Paul Kroon said: "We tested compounds that are actually found in the blood, rather than the flavonoid in food before it is eaten, as only these compounds will actually come into contact with human tissues and have an effect on arterial health.
"The effect is more subtle than laboratory experiments using the parent compound.
"But the metabolites still have an effect on the cells lining the blood vessels."
The research found that, in the case of one inflammatory process, a lower dose of the compounds - achievable by eating 100g to 200g of onions - actually had a bigger impact.
Bridget Aisbitt, a nutrition scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation, said: "Inflammation is an important process in the furring up of arteries that can lead to heart disease and stroke and this study gives us clues as to why a diet rich in fruit and vegetables appears to reduce the risk of these conditions.
"In the UK we are only consuming about two portions of fruit and vegetables per day on average, so this study underlines the importance of getting your five a day to stay healthy throughout life."

I have been using quercetin along with my vitamin C crystals as the C has no bioflavnoids in them. I don't take either on a daily basis unless we are into a Season change or there is a possiblility of me getting a cold. I have bad upper respiratory problems since I was a child.
Since taking the combo I no longer suffer with the allergies like I did and have had no colds even when folks are hacking all around me. I was under the impression that Quercetin contained the bioflavnoids of apples. Well it doesn't really matter because in conjunction with the vitamim C crstals I have had great success. I have only had to use my nebulizer for my asthma once since being off TX and that was before I started using the combination. The Vitamin C is absorbed better when taken with bioflavnoids...that is my understanding.
My combination is 5000 mg pure Vitamin C crystald w/600 mgs of Quercetin so you can see why I wouldn't take that on a daily basis! I would probably be fine dividing that amount into half. I have a regular C w/bioflavnoids that I take regulary.
Anyway, Thanks For Your Update.....

Joyce,
So you suffer from seasonal changes as well? I thought it was all in my head untill recently, and years ago before I began taking supplements I was always sick from a cold, flu or allergy, etc. throughout the year. Oh, I get an occasional cold and from time to time feel like I'm coming down with something but for the most part I remain healthy.
I believe vitamins, minerals and herbs indeed do help but with my addictive personallity I tend to overdo things and my supplement habit is no exception. I've just began to cut back.

Ahhhhh! I hear you on overduing it! I have cut myself back considerably, too. I don't feel like I've screwed it all up or I'm going to die if I miss taking my calcium supplements, take smaller dosages of something or whatever...lol
At this time of year in the Great Lake Region where I now live I am taking echinacea which helps considerably with the Season Change. If I were to be sick I would use Goldenseal with it. I do not stay on those permanently. If I were to be on anti-biotics I wouldn't take the Quercetin. My vitamin D intake needs to be constant for the Fall & Winter...so on & so on. With taking bi-polar meds I have to wait a couple hours before I ingest any minerals and since I've been on meds for IBS I have to wait 6 hours. I should really keep a chart. It can get confusing...Duh! I defintely take a multi vitamin & mineral daily if nothing else. Let's not forget the Milk Thistle! I take some things in teas also. Lastly, nasal washing is a definite.
It is as you say: For the most part I remain healthy...there are occasions though that I will feel a little under the weather...not often. I try to let common sense guide any research I have read. I think it pretty much has to be an individual thing, also.
Here's To Better Health!.....
