Just got a little fat chewed off my butt but apparently the last hospitalization kicked my MELD score up high enough that I am number one for my blood type. She also said had THEY known I was in the hospital...I would have already been TP'd as they have sent two livers out of state that I would have received as they were compatible. I told her that I had told everyone I was in the hospital and talked to I was listed and my doctor, and since I was in their hospital, I figured they would be notified. NOPE...doesn't work that way...then she chewed a little more butt fat. I bet I lost 10 pounds in my butt as much as she chewed on it. Felt like I was 16 and getting caught sneaking out to talk to boys in the driveway. Oh well...I guess it shouldn't be that terribly long now. Really don't know how I feel about all of this but what-ever goes down was in the plan. I'll try to be better logging in...I've been just too dang lazy for my own good. Love y'all and keep your spirits high...robin

They say that I will only be in the hospital about 4-5 days and they expect it to be more like 4 since I'm generally in good health (sounds like an oxymoron there). I'm still a bit conflicted as I know my gain will come at another families grief and that trade off seems unfair. Yeah...got the head in a weird place and I really feel the need to know about my future donor when the time comes. Oh well...won't sweat it but will try to keep a journal on Myspace and will get the daughter to do some video and still shots. I wish they would videotape it for me but my thoughts are it won't happen so whatever...keep your spirits high...robin

Dear highly spritied Robin - Having just begun the ticklish transplant trip, I understand how much thought and ups and downs you speak about.  I also know as i get closer to urgent my anxieties and hopefulness will magnify by leaps and bounds. (Boy, won't I be a joy to know, let alone live with. I am not as sweet as you, she said modestly.)

On the other side of the coin, once the families become less raw from their loss, the knowledge that the heart or lung or eyes or liver saved a life helps that person live on, it's not just part of the brochure hype.  A woman just died here from a motorcycle accident.  What's odd is she had just, only weeks before, done all the legal work to make sure her "parts" could be used in the best condition possible.  I don't  know which parts were used, but a letter from the family said four people have a new lease on life and the family is happy because that keeps her living on.

As I try to wrap my mind around the whole thing myself, I take a lot of heart from that local experience. Hers is not just another story, it is a story with a face and name to it that can be celebrated by other local faces and names.  All the best to the sunniest girl on the block,

Believe me, after over TEN years post transplanted liver myself, you will be reminded by your body to slow down so profoundly, and at any given moment!!!

Anywho, listen to your ICU nurses afterwards because if you fight them, you will be staying there longer Grin All the best to you, and see you on the other side Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
