Last Shadow
Joris      9-23-07

Awake me now, from endless dreams
From the wounds and battle scars
And open my heart to the day
Each one miraculous

Peace was mine for a share of time
Good son laughing, life in heaven was fair
When the ground shook from under me
bringing bitter cold, the long hunger

Watchful am I now…
When life is good, when fair is fair
I never saw the edge coming so fast
Until day turned to night

War declared in a day
Intense battle, 48 weeks in hell
mind cooked, shattered by chemo-chaos
Nobody won

The war went on and on
Another 48 weeks of blood battle
Wielding my axe back through hell
And then the war was over

Waking to the suns morning belch
Searing eyes by the light of lifes lantern
It’s good to be alive… again
Is this really life? Or just another shadow.

Shadows splash through my life
Sunlit paradise awaits in afterlife
Painless existence, are you there?
Will you welcome me as I will you?

Letting go of everything
Grasping only light
as He watches over
Floating through the fight

The fight for life
Never seemed so tough before
So easy before,
when last shadow came

Where there is darkness
Let there be light
And in dreams you’ll awake to find
They weren’t always dreams

But light, sweet light
Comes along to show
What’s hidden from view
In the last shadow

Thanks Snowy. It doesn't get out enough, and sometimes too much comes gushing out at once. But I think it's in everyone to get the stuff in you on paper or pages for others to see. It's important, I think, no matter how small it may seem.

Hey dude,
I just found this thread this morning having my coffee and waking up and this hit me really hard....

and I quote:
Quote
Painless existence, are you there?
Will you welcome me as I will you?

I haven't had a painless day in 4 years No joke. I am in pain everyday we are talking 2 different kinds of pain but I would welcome just one day pain free. That would be a day I would dance with joy...

Great job on this writing brother.... I am glad I found this thread.......May God bless you ad keep you safe.

Thank you, Kim! I have things in my "attic" that need a way out, but they seem to have gotten jumbled in all the mess of years. Pieces at a time. That's all I can hope for where writing is concerned, as much as I enjoy writing.

The thing I enjoy about this kind of prose is that it brings forth the emotion, but never has to rhyme. It presents feelings without the necessity of absolute balance of sound. And it makes it so much easier to just write from the heart. If you add this type of writing to music, the music takes care of the balance.

Thank you Kristi, I love to write, I just rarely go deep enough to enjoy it the way I enjoyed this one. I think life has beaten on me to the point where when I do write something of any significance, it still doesn't quite get it all out of me, like parts of it remain tucked away inside and I just can't remember where I left them. Thanks for your kind words.

Dude,

I so loved your writing.  Very intense, direct, heartfelt.  I find writing has a cleansing effect and can be healing, like a good cry.

i was deeply moved and touched by the flow of words you expressed.  I particularly identified with the lines:

Letting go of everything
Grasping only light
as He watches over
Floating through the fight

They are the words to hold on to for us all.  Is the only way I know to get through. <<smile>> thank you so much for the heartfelt words and the reminder.

Continued blessings to you,

Lee

Thanks, Pete and Lee, you're both very kind. I love to see that it was able to reach people by their sensitivities. That was why I posted it. Thanks good friends.

God bless.
