 Huh  If I can't 'view just any profile,' exactly which profiles can I view??? Huh

You will soon be MYS informed.  Here's the deal with that;

We try to protect our members from various nefarious types.  Some spammers register at forums so that they can visit the member lists and harvest e-mail addies so they can spam the universe.  OR....they might register and then send alll members porn by PM.  And so....... we have a few restrictions on newbies here so that the spam type registrations end up hitting a wall.  They're in and part of the membership but they can't do anything covert.

After you have 25 posts you have full privileges.....providing that you are "logged in", that is.  I get the same error message as you do when I try to take some actions when I am logged out or on a different internet provider.

It's all about trying to protect our membership.....from sh1ts.   Wink  Hope the explanation helps.   Smiley

By the way.....very nice to meet you and I'm sure that you've already noticed....we're happy to have you and your friends here.  I visited your UK site a few times myself.  It's great to have you here; more like a party than usual.

best,
Willy

Ah Carole, our posts crossed.  It's the same deal with you.  Just a few more posts and you'll be golden.  Sorry about the bother but we would be having different kinds of troubles if it weren't for a few precautions.  By the way...... on ones profile page you have the option of having your contact information hidded.  Actually, that is the default setting.  I usually suggest leaving it hidden and only sharing that information (I'm talking about the e-mail addy that you used when joining) with people you choose to, as opposed to having it visible to any or all members.

Thanks Willy!  My son (Austin, age 13) is helping his computer NOT savvy Mom on what to do here.  I thought that was not a good idea and I'm glad you mentioned it.  FINALLY Austin showed me how to get into the chat room.  Geez, what a journey that was!

Thanks for the explanation, Willy.
It wasn't 'my UK site,' I belonged there a year and a half, quit recently due to the politics there getting out of control.  But, it's still a good place to go for information.
Are newbies such as myself allowed to take part in the 'chats?'

First, yes you can chat.  There is no "permissions" attached to that.  If you follow Caroles issue that she had there are parts of the forum that allow you to condense or collapse them so they take up less room.  To enter chat you have to find it in the top right hand corner of our forum.  It should be quite visible if you look for the color red.

IF you don't see it you have part of the top header "collapsed".  If you can find the board search engine just below it is a little arrow, just to the left of the little buttons on top; just left of "home", Help, Search, etc.  Anyway...If you can't access it let us know.  First, I just wanted to make sure you could find it.

Yes..... I guess that I didn't mean that it was "yours" but rather the forum that you belonged to.  I have lurked there in the past but at some point the link no longer worked and so I pitched it.

In any case....nice to have you here.  You seem to be another one of those night owl heppers.  We have odd sleeping patterns.  : )

Oh, good, I see the red sign.  I'll try to remember to be here tomorrow at 7:30.
