Unfortunately, someone who has passed away (Marc Perry) pointed out that all of us are capable of good writing...  Helen, that's why I think you'd be surprised at what you could do.

Wish we were on better terms before life ended for Marc.  For this I will always feel a twinge of guilt.  He said I could write and this was one we did collaboratively with others..

Winds of War

Our troops are leaving for Iraq,
It's not a good place to be.
We pray they're coming back,
To their families.

The rockets screaming everywhere,
No time to take a break.
The smell of death is in the air,
They won't give so we will take.

The men crying as they cross-terrain,
With pools of blood abound.
Young boys dying on the plain,
Limbs scatter the naked ground.

Bombs are strapped to their side
Suicide is their mission.
How long must we reside,
Like children without a vision?

There should be a common thread,
Which holds it all in place.
Instead of one we count our dead,
And return to that awful place.

The winds of war that we need,
Dismal reigns of power.
Defiant greed they think they need
To capture us, in our last hour.

They return, as our young men
posture straight, heads held up high
Everyone applauds in unison
As row by row, they walk by.

When our boys come home this time,
Don't treat them like Vietnam.
Salute and wave, and it’s not a crime,
For their sake, extend an open hand.

Put your arms around your boys,
when you see them in your home,
make them feel; a job well done,
so they know their not alone.

Kat, You all did such a wonderful job writing this poem, you should be very proud. The subject is really close to my heart as our son is serving in the Navy. He also served in the Gulf War and i pray everyday that he returns home from his missions.
Sorry to hear of your friends passing, sounds like he was a smart guy. I also believe that anyone can write, we all have a story to tell.

Thanks, Kim and Winona!  Smiley  Writing jointly is so much fun because you can see everyone's perspective and emotion in the various verses.  I must admit it was fun as our disease can be so damaging... to not only our health but to our minds.  Whether it be liver cancer or tx, or the depression from our disease, it should not seperate us.

Winona, I pray your son returns safe from his missions and that God willing, this war will be over soon.  With what is happening, we will go from one war to another.. and this is so disheartening.

Thank you for your words.  They mean so much!!
Hugs,
Kat

We had such a great time, doing our joint poetry.  Maybe we should try to do the same thing here, HUH???  Anyone wanna try it again?

Winona, My son Wes,was in the Gulf War too (Demolition officer).  I was terrified the whole time he was over there and soooo thankful when he returned home safely.  He is now out of the service.  Two of my boys were in the Vietnam war. All I can say is THANK GOD for our men and women that go and serve for our country.  I hope that your son continues on his journey and is safe through all of it.

Katsie, you got any ideas on how to get our poetry going again??

So sweet of you to say that, Pete.   I have to give credit where it's due and there were so many of us.

Squeaks, I've got to post some of the others...  As the momma of 7 boys, you were so fortunate and blessed to have them all come home safely.

On the poetry, just jump in girl!

Hugs,

Marc is really missed. I used to love the different threads he would start for fun in the hood.
His music thread and joke thread were always favorites if mine.
