Hey all,

The last time I was on tx I used Nioxin hair care products when I started losing my hair.  Those of you that use Nioxin probably already know the stuff ain't cheap and it kind of smells.   I found something that is a lot less expensive and seems to be working almost as good as Nioxin.  It's the Pantene Restorative Care shampoo and conditioner for brittle and damaged hair.  My hair does look a little fuller and feels A LOT softer after I use it.  It seems to really help hide that brittle and frizzy stuff that happens on tx.   I still think very highly of the Nioxin line of products but have a little guilt thing going on about spending the $ on it since I don't work anymore.

Anyway, just another alternative.

Thanks Mousey! I had less hair loss when I went through all I went through, but lately (actually ever since I got my bike) my hair is falling out and into the shower drain. I mean, I still have my hair, but it seems to have been falling out more. I also have thin and brittle hair. I'll give this stuff a try.

Thanks for addressing this issue. I wanted to ask but never did.

God bless.

Ironic to see this post as of now, 19 weeks into treatment, my hair has begun to come out. I have been using the Nioxin since day one...I thought it was working since I wasn't losing hair but all of a sudden, it's coming out BADLY. Especially in the shower and when I comb it afterwards. It comes out in globs. My bed sheets and pillows are covered in hair too. Uggghhh....this was one of the biggest things I feared happening. I guess I had a lot of vanity surrounding my hair especially since it was starting to get so long and full.

I will definitelt try that Pantene stuff  cuz lord knows, financially I can't buy Nioxin anymore. I can barely buy shampoo at the $1 Store. My weakness has always been spending too much money on hair care products and make-up. The high dollar stuff. So, time to make some changes  and swallow some pride.

I just hope what I hear is true as far as after treatment your hair comes back fuller and even healthier. Is that true? God I hope so.

xoxo

Hey Michelle!
Wow, you are online!

on tx, my hair began to thin out after about5 or 6 months. My hair is wavy and it went totally straight on tx! It did not take long for it to come back full and wavy again.

You sound like Nicole with the beaty products! The good stuff costs but it sure does work!

Hope you are doing ok!

Michelle,

I promise the hair comes back.  This will now be the third time I've lost  my hair to "chemo".  When I was 23 I went completely bald from the chemo for Leukemia, I even lost my eyelashes which caused me some really nasty eye infections.  I probably lost about 2/3 of my hair during my first round of Hep treatment and it was coming back in pretty good when I found out I relapsed.  I'm 20 weeks in to my second round and am just now losing it in "gobs".  It's going to be real interesting to see how much I have left when I finish tx in 52 more weeks.

Hey there missy,

Well I had my first real ugly hair experience this morning. I'm just on week 4 of tx and my scalp has itched since day one - I started taking more flax oil and biotin and it really helped with my skin (rash is gone) But today my hair was coming out in handfulls. It's also limp and straight - use to be full and curly. I did alot of research (my usual panic thing to do) and it  seems that Jojoba oil is very good - so bought some and now I look like I just stepped out of the musical "Greese" ugh

BTW - I had been using the Nioxin and don't like it at all - iIlove Pantene so will get the one you suggested - thanks for the tip

Also as i know know - you just use a few drops of the jajoba oil and mix it with your conditioner and shampoo...dup

Wow the hair side!  Yep, it is not an attractive one.  Especially when you wash your hair and the drain literally becomes clogged.  EWWWW.

Mine started falling around week 20 slowly then with a vengence.  I've stopped for about 5 weeks and it is starting to slow up although, going from lush wavy locks to thin, brittle fly away is still taking getting used too.

Next time I arm myself well for the hair issues.  I know the hair will come back, but for now i may be going for a little shorter haircut just to get rid of the funky stuff, rather than look at myself and go ewww and be self conscious about it.

Actually short hair is quite sexy in it's own way!   Cool

Well, I don't really pay attention to hair 'styles.' And I don't grow my hair, it grows all by itself. Might says it's God's will. If if falls out over tx ok, if not ok. I use a shampoo/conditioner mix these day just to keep it simple.

Somebody posted that silky pillow cases help keep it from falling out (maybe from being rubbed off). Last time I went to my Mom's, I found a pair of silky pink ones in a storage drawer. Man, they sure are soft on the face. Once upon a time, I wouldn't have used them because they're PINK. That time has passed.

Peace,

Max

Laughing at Max...funny how pink is no longer a girlie color. Amazing how when we get older...things like pink for men isn't so weird. Keep your spirits high...robin
