Hank,

I do hope you realize I was not serious.  I am reasonably sure that neither you nor Robin has any intention of being pregnant.  I did read the article and understood the limitations of it.

However it does bring up a question, but one more of statistics.  I know their are young transplant recipients that have transplants, some of whom are female and of child bearing age.  But I would imagine that is a small minority of recipients.  I wonder how large a group that is.  Do you happen to know a statistical web site that has data on the demographics of transplant reciepients.

No babies here...not even grands. My next generation will be Great-Grands.  Shocked Gosh, I'm getting old. I was spayed in my late 30's so I never have had any issues with meds like this. I'm betting that Hank will have the statistics on age of average TP patients. His ability to find good articles always amazes me. Keep your spirits high...robin

Well then, I believe it would be prudent for you to explain something like that in much greater detail from now on, and possibly add the link to the article you read so as to avoid any further confusion don't you think? One can put the proverbial buggy or cart before the horse yet, one will end up going nowhere - Capeche???

Perhaps your question can be answered from what little exposure I have with transplant registries, by saying that UNOS is currently conducting a study to organize one for the US of A!!! That's right! UNOS doesn't even have one available at the present time and, the study they're conducting will not be completed until 2013!!!

So I wish I could be more helpful in that approach... However, I've compiled a list of links below that may or may not help you in attempting to gather some statistics regarding many different types of organ or bone marrow transplants so, good luck with your quest Doug. Wink

Here's a sad story, and hopefully some good will come as a result of closer scrutiny:

Hank,  Smiley  Grin

Oh, nonononono... no TP for me yet.  I believe in edumacating myself before anything happens.  Additionally, Robin's one of my dearest friends, so the more I know about tp, the better prepared I am to deal with any issues from the tp.  I want to know everything about them should I choose to go that route.

Thanks for the well wishes though.

Hugs,
Kat

Kat - I'm with you - No TIPS for this gal. I appreciate the links Hank, but remember how readily the local hospital was willing to give me the gift of a the procedure for internal hemorrhoids!!! I have already righted myself in diet, exercise, attitude, you name it to keep that bad boy from my life. Plus the fact that I not only have I heard the effect it had on Robin, but I have friends at home who I've seen basically ruined by it.  My transplant doc told me he reserves the TIPS till it is the last possible route to take as well, no pun intended.

At least with the tp we know we are going somewhere, the odds, the risks, the basic discomfort, though only for a relatively short while, etc. It is a life-saving surgery with a highly possible result of a rewarding recovery. I am not convinced the TIPS is.

Sorry to get all up in arms, but it bothers me quite a lot to put it mildly.

Susie...I had a TIPS done a couple years before my transplant and it was about the best thing I had done. Before it I was in the hospital all the time and bleeding so much that the two weeks before my TIPS, I was averaging 4-5 units of blood a day and still was staying at a 7-hgb and 20-hct. I was so swollen that I looked pregnant and after my TIPS, that disappeared along with the constant bleeding from my portal vein. If it had taken care of my ammonia, I would have been as good as new.
