OK...I know that is probably an odd sort of question to post to y'all but I honestly want to know...what is it that makes one want to take away from your day (and pockets) to moderate a forum such as this? Is it for altruistic reasons? I feel selfish that there are so many who give of themselves and I can't say that I would or could be willing to find the time or dedication. So...what drives you?

For me ....

A true committment to the awareness and eduction of this disease and a strong desire to share what I've learned from people like you Robin.  It's just my personality.  I was very active with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for a long time after my cancer recovery.  I jumped in a hot tub full of jello once to raise money (with a hickman cathether/port no less LOL)

Mouse

P.S.  I just ordered 500 HCV post cards from HepCAware that I will be hitting the streets with.

Betty,

The web site is  www.hepcaware.org.  There's contact info and info on how to get the Awareness Post Cards.

YOU know.......

It's not a crazy post Robin.  I think you already know why though.  I remember years back at the 'hood you basically acted as one on occasion.  You knew the people the personalities and sometimes helped keep things running a little bit smoother.

I fell into the job and loved it.  What's not to like?

It's perfect for one obsessed with Hepatitic C and everything which pertains to it.

I get to hang around with people whom I like and respect (and who are also equally obsessed)

I have the sense that keeping the lights on and coffee made helps others; but it really helps me more.  I've learned so much from the many people who have wandered through.  I've gotten closer to some people than I normally do in real life; people whose face I've never see or voices heard.  Only on the rare occasion have I met anybody from the board in person.  (waves to Missy)

It has pushed me to do things I would never NEVER have done until I got DX'ed.  It's been a great ride and from one of the best seats.

It has given me pleasure, made me a somewhat better person, taught me more than I can express and given my life a little more meaning.

I'd do it again in a second.

Willy

( I know that I'm full of it but I actually feel that way)

*Not The Weather For Streaking*

{{{Hi Robin!}}}

My first intention at being a Moderator was the joy & gratitude of being able to give back freely what I had been given for more than my 48 weeks of TX.  You probably know the adage, "If you don't use it you lose it."  Although lately I have been somewhat out of the loop with my posting you can bet I am still reading almost all posts and responses.  Now that our temperatures are definitely set for the Fall Season, "Grrrrr," I should be posting more again, soon.  The board has been very slow & quiet, also.  Lastly, the depressive side of my Manic-Depression has been rearing it's head and that makes it hard for me to post but at times it actually helps my condition to jump in with both feet.  Nothing quite like getting out of ones self to remedy such a problem. Wink   So, being a Moderator has a helpful side for me at times, too.

This board is my treasured family and I will always do whatever I can to be of any help.  It's been a Blessing to be a part of this website as I'm sure you feel the same. Smiley

{{{Mousie}}}...Thanks for posting that Website Link! Grin

All My Love..... Cool

LOL Jazz,

It was red jello and it was a very cold and dreary day when I did it.

I'll bet you were pink like a mouse after that, Missy!  Wink  You've got what it takes, true grit and gumption to keep everyone in line and the kindness and love, committment it takes to moderate.  This place is very fortunate to have such awesome moderators.

Robin's been a lifesaver for many and I think she'd be a wonderful moderator, too!!!  She's very passionate and is an asset wherever she goes....  She's survived through it all....... all the way through tp and is very knowledgeable!

Honestly, I'm being very sincere...

(OK, Robin, I'll take that $20 you promised, now)  Cheesy Cheesy  Kiss Kiss Kiss

Hugs,
Kat

Robin... sorry to drag up an old post..... you do quite a bit on your own volition anyway, your blog and helping others... merely by asking this question has taken your time and created an interaction.... I spend a lot of time on my forum as it is very active and also on other HCV related projects, awareness campaigns and the like.... to me it's in my genes to do this, it is something I inherited from my mother.... she was the kind of woman that would put herself in debt to give to those that she thought were in greater need...... some might say we are  philanthropists  ....... I know one thing for sure we all share something in common and that is what it's all about.... some people achieve SVR and go back to what they were doing before HCV came along and don't look back or give it a second thought.... but if we all did that what about the poor souls that will follow us... who will help them.... we recycle our knowledge and learn new things from experience, this is our legacy...... you have helped by just being here....... warmest regards jb

Hi All -
I must have been AWOL when this was originally posted - so - thanks jb for resurrecting it. I would love to quote Willy verbatim - everything he wrote is true - though he easily does twice the moderating I do. In fact for the better part of this last year, Hank the dog does twice as much as I do. Nevertheless, I want to add that when I was asked by Willy and Helen, I was more than flattered, I was touched.

This forum has been a lifeline for me on some pretty rough occasions, but by way of responses, I have a much better understanding of what really matters in the long run. Nice words are easy, but sincere sentiments are a whole other thing. Sure, I try to give back some portion of what I have received here, and only hope it gives what is needed to one who asks.

Free car? Does that include gas?

Love you all,
Susie
