TO EACH HIS OWN

« on: October 30, 2008, 10:12:40 AM »

By Kevin Chase, #3133

Dear God,

Where there is beauty beyond the obvious -
In a surging green sea of corn fields,
Or the solitary brilliance of a single yellow sunflower -
May I see it.

When each day of my journey cries out to me,
Demanding to be lived in its fullest -
May I hear it.

When the voice of friendship speaks to me,
In even the most unlikely of my fellow travelers -
May I answer it.

If given the opportunity to accomplish collectively,
What I could never dream of alone -
May I embrace it.

If, as I believe, something greater is transpiring here
Than my mortal mind can comprehend -
May my soul feel it.

If, in fact, I am in the company of angels gone before me,
Whose wings can carry me when my own legs cannot -
May I borrow their heavenly strength for a time,
And send them along to help others.

If, through my own aching muscles and burning lungs,
Others can be healed -
May I endure.
And may I heal.
And may I be healed in the process.
And if, though I cannot fully conceive it,
Others can take strength or courage
From my own journey: however difficult -
May I never give up.
And may I acknowledge your hand in all I do.

And Dear God,
When there are those (and there always will be)
Who must leave the trail before my journey is finished -
May I ride on in their name and in their honor.

Amen
