This makes it all worth while

Hello Everyone
I'm about 22 wks post tx now and feel like a million bucks
. . . but also wonder if things will get better? Honestly, up to now I wasn't really sure in my mind that I would ever recommend tx to anyone. I've 'talked' to people who are familiar with SVR and no one can guarantee things will ever get any better. . . . up to now.
Someone passed along a link to a study that followed people for five years post SVR. The good new is that the liver does heal itself. The inflammation and fibrosis scores are reduced long term.
Below is a link to the study. There are some biopsy plates about halfway down the page. When enlarged, even the untrained eye can see the big difference after SVR. They're not aligned top to bottom. . . they are left to right.

This is what it's all about.
sincere best wishes to everyone,
Max

thanks for posting that. as for me, i think its good news. before tx my biopsy showed cirrhosis with excessive scarring throughout the liver.
and i have been svr now for over 2 years.
the study found two of the 16 patients with pretreatment cirrhosis developed HCC.....
that is my biggest fear. and it is my gastro drs. biggest concern with me. especially when my tumor marker level was
elevated.... but thankfully, it was back to normal during the next test...
i know that i need to take one day at a time and appreciate every living breathing moment that i have.
for anyone else reading this that hasnt decided to treat yet. i think its an inspiring article. and i believe it would be better to treat
before your liver develops fibrosis or cirrhosis from the hcv.

Kentucky,
Yes, 12.5% of those who gained SVR with
cirrhosis pre-tx
did develop liver cancer. . . . that means that 87.5% didn't and saw significant. . . sometimes huge decreases in inflammation/fibrosis scores. Those look like pretty handsome odds to me.
The long term outcomes for those who gain SVR without cirrhosis was excellent with no exceptions.
