Edit Profile, Hide e-mail address not working

As in the subject, it would seem that the "Hide E-Mail address form the public?" checkbox in the profile settings is not working correctly.
I can see almost everyones e-mail address and i can't hide mine.

If i check or uncheck the hide box i still see the envelop in my posts.
Also i was not able to upload a avatar it said the folder was write protected.

Am i doing something wrong, i would like to not have my e-mail open to the public for spamer, and e-mail address collectors to grab.

I'll check it out.

It was working earlier but i will log in as a newbie and take a look see.

Our permissions should not allow you to see others e-mails and  few other things

(edit) that part looks OK, I don't see an issue

(edit #2)  As a logged on newbie I cannot view others profiles.  I certainly couldn't see yours.

I wonder if I am misinterpreting something?
