Today I spent the $1100 co-pay and started treatment for the hep. Figured if I don't get an early viral response...then I'll quit but until then, I will put the $1100 each month on credit until either my limit is up or I quit. Been long time coming. Keep your spirits high...robin

Good for you, Robin, for being willing to take on tx again.  I wish you the best, I hope it goes well for you, and is easy on your body.

That new liver should help out, right?

I'll be sending good thoughts your way, rest and take care of yourself,   Kiss

Thank you everyone. Things do work out. For those who don't "know" last week I split with my hubby of 18 years and as of yesterday, he wants a divorce and not a separation which I had requested. There is a side of me that figures it was this expense that was the last straw that ended things. I'm staying at my daughter's for now and will be moving into a house that is unfurnished except for appliances so my decorations and supplies at this time will be three cats and two litter boxes. How exciting. My daughter is loaning me a bed and enough utensils so I can fix meals. Next month, I'll be in the donut hole and will have to pay 100% for my meds for $5800 but the hospital is willing to let me set up an account and pay them monthly rather than charging it since I am post-transplant and they don't want this liver to fail. They are willing to finance and let me pay them 25% of my copay each month and then continue payment until it ia paid off. That is the positive...if I am going into debt for this, I may as well do it without adding credit card interest to the mix.

My e-mail is the same and Missy, I'll send you the physical address since I'll be moving this week-end. I am renting my son in law's, parents rental house so they are allowing me to move in without any deposits or lease. There are windows opened when doors close. My son in law is painting the inside today and the carpet is being cleaned tomorrow. I will have three bedrooms two baths, and the house is next door to my "landlord" so the grands will be excited to have two sets of grandparents living side by side. Hope this works out well for us all but they will have a steady and stable tenant (let's hope with the riba) and I have leniency right now with the living arrangements.

Very sorry to hear about the marriage Robin.  One always hopes for the best of circumstances while one is treating.  Perhaps if this was the straw that broke the camels back.....well even perhaps this could prove to be less stressful.  I hope it turns out to be that way for you.  I did a divorce that commenced in 2000 and in general things became much less stressful.  Make no mistake about it divorce itself is..... but sometimes living in a failed marriage is worse.  I hope it all works out for the best.

So far as the TX.... when do you start?

I also wonder if you say that much of this is going onto a credit card.....have you looked into the "commitment to care" or similar programs?  There are drug meds assistance programs for virtually every drug that we used during TX; even rescue drugs.  It might be worth looking particularly if you could be faced with a disruption in supply due to finances.  You also know that there is generic riba available......

I am starting to suggest that past TX failures take a look at IR issues before TX since it is quite common in heppers particularly where there is advanced staging.  IR will reduce response rates and it might be worth a look.  It may also be more common than is known.  This is a little benefit of having HCV.  It is a little side effect that may often slide past doctors since heppers are less likely to fit the typical profile of IR; it ain't necessarily tied to being overweight or hereditary other classic symptoms where heppers are involved.  Anyway; it requires a HOMA test.  I don't know how this fits into the scheme with a new liver but IF you had it you may still have it or on the other hand the new liver might improve things.  I'm not knowlegable but it might be worth asking/checking before doing TX. There are drugs which combat IR but may take time to work and therefore delay ones start date.  It's still somewhat in between being proven and widely accepted but there are studies which suggest that you can improve ones odds for SVR if you treat the IR issue.  I also assume that the basics like iron are where they should be before preceding on TX.  You know the check list; dental work done, $ lined up, good doctor and possibly a specialist they can refer to, a shrink lined up if they are needed for A-D's, sounds like you have support nearby and online.   Smiley

I just wanted to say hi.....and sorry..... and go get em.

best,
Willy

Robin,

I have to go to school in just a minute so this will be very brief until I have more time.

I'm thinking of you and wish you well.

More though later.
