I would make sure that the doctor is referring to HCV; not Hepatitis A or B.

"Carrier" often refers to someone who has the disease, but may have no symptoms or subsequent damage and yet is able to transmit the virus.  Generally speaking, this is an incorrect label when it is applied to HCV.

Sometimes doctors tell patients that they are in "remission" or that the virus is "Inactive" as though it is sleeping.  Once again, this is perhaps an incorrect term.  The damage the HCV may inflict occurs to different people at different rates but it tends to affect everybody to some degree.  I can't comment on your doctor since I don't know what they said exactly but this response makes me wonder if they are familiar with HCV.

People can go years thinking no damage is occurring and find out too late that the virus has been active after all.

Are you seeing a hepatologist?  A gastrologist?  A General Practicioner?  A doctor who is not well acquainted with HCV will not be able to give good advice or care.
