Just wanted to pass along a little information.  I went to see my family Dr. for regular visit.  After learning about my  detectable VL, we were discussing various ways to maintain good health, figuring regardless of the results in Oct, best to be as healthy as possible.  After learning I am still feeling very tired, she ordered blood work to check for Vitamin D deficiency explaining it will make you tired, and you can have flu like symptoms.  She also explained that Vitamin D is good for cell growth...which of course will help the Liver.

The reason for the post is that when I was researching about Vitamin D....came across an article that was discussing the fact that with some liver disease, the liver has a harder time absorbing  Vitamin D.  I was amazed that during treatment and all, no one ever thought to check it out...if in fact this could be the case.  Wanted to let all know that it might be a good idea to have the blood work to check it out.  Sure can't hurt.  The average level is 30. Anything under that is deficient in degrees......15 or under is extremely deficient.  Mine is 11, hence am taking it now.  She said it could be partly from tx.

I thought it worth mentioning, perhaps will help others too.

Blessings,

Lee

Interesting Lee,

Did he/she give you a special vitamin D prescription or suggest over the counter stuff?

Someone said she was taking D3. . . . did the doc say anything about that?

take care,

Max

Funny that you should mention this, Missy....   My Dr. checked me a few mos. ago for Vit D deficiancy and my level was only 4...    YIKES...   She has me on a prescrption for it at I think 50,000 units, that I take once a week and she said I probably will, for the rest of my life.  Whatever the amount of Vit D, she said that I couldn't get enough of it, doin it over the counter or anything else.  Dang.  She said it is quite common in people that have been through tx.  Soooo, you guys out there, should get checked to see if you need some.  I know that since taking it, I do feel better as far as not being tired all of the time.

Max...I have a prescription.1100 ml a day...will see how it goes...no one mentioned D3...do you know anything more about it?

Squeaker...am glad you were checked for it too...just wish more Dr. would be aware when in tx....it should make the fatigue a little less for sure.

Mr. Pete...might be a good idea to have the bloodwork to see...can't hurt for sure.

Blessings,

Hi Lee, after 2nd round of tx, I went to developed something called reynaulds syndrome which makes my hands and feet go purple cold or red hot with any rapid change in room temp.  I went to rumotologist about that and while doing bloodwork, I was in fact with no vitamin D at all.  I now take 1 50,000 ml capsule (prescribed) once a month.  Very important info.  thanks for putting that out there because I never thought to.  mindy

Watched on the news today, how 75% of us are deficiant in Vit. D      We need to eat more fish (Salmon), or cod liver oil (YUK).   Mindy and I were EXTREMELY low in our D level.  I guess we should all be checked.

If in the entire universe the only source of Vitamin D was Cod Liver Oil, then personally I'm livin' with deficient.

I used to give my dogs fish oil capsules for their skin and coat.  And indeed they had a pretty coat but they smelled like Charlie the Tuna after he was rolled at a waterfront bar and left out in the sun.

Go Milk, and go sunlight.......

Ain't smellin' like no Cod,

Doug, I'd rather stink like a fish then have no vitamin D to help my liver have a better chance.  You are a funny guy though.  Thanks for the laugh.  mindy
