My husband was listed on January 20th for a liver.  We were told he is in the top 10 for our region which is region 11, NC SC VA KY and TN.  We did receive a call on the 24th for a back up liver, however the primary recipient was able to receive the organ so we were discharged.  We are currently at UNC Chapel Hill.  We have not done any multi listing at any medical facilities.  Any info on wait time or multi listing would be helpful.  I am thinking since we are listed and they are pulling from 5 states there is no need to multi list.

I don't have any stats, but seems to me the more places you can get listed the better your odds.  However in order to be listed, as I understand it, you have to be able to move on a moments notice and be able to comply with post transplant visits.  If you have the financial ability to be able to drop everything and temporarily move to another location for however long is deemed necessary, go for it.

Come what may, I wish you and your husband well.

Thanks for the reply Doug.  You would think being pulled from 5 states depending on your region would be enough.

Hi there -

I'm also on the list, up here in New England.. At 22 weeks we need to schedule 3 wks to a month for a transplant. In the meantime, the docs will do any and everthing in their power to hep you lst ehile swsiting sa liver. I met a man who was at 32 wheen e got his liver. Everyday seemed like his last. Finally, he told his family not to come unless things really went south, he could only deal with being as up beat as possible. He is 74 yrs. old. When I met him we were part of te liver life walk. He saved me from crashing with waater and sugary snacks to carry me oer, He also went to the same hospital as I do.

Sadly, the woman he was waiting and on par with, died, since there was no match and she was too tiny for anything but one from a child. The docs heard, jumped in a helicopter to Maine (from Boston) retrieved the liver and in two hours he was on the table.

One thing they told me early on is I can be on any list or lists, the only problem would be with follow up work, which makes sense to me - just like so many things, one doc doesn't want to be responsible for someone else's work.

God luck, keep us posted, and be as calm as you can. The waiting is often the most cruel part of all.
